About

Mr. Pie in InterabangYo! My name is David Brown and I am not another soulless blogger simply writing for a search engine; I blog about anything I have a passion for, be it Writing, Flash animationComputer Music or my experiences from being the Emcee/DJ/Synth player in my band You and What Army.

My Credentials

You cannot be a good writer if you don’t know what is enjoyable to read.   I love to read.   Sci Fi, Fantasy and Action stories predominantly - the majority of my life I have had a book by my bedside helping to tackle my stereotypically author-ish insomnia.   I have read a lot of books - the good, the bad and the ones that are so bad that they are good.

I used to be able to enjoy books for their stories, but recently I noticed more and more that I was analysing the author rather than enjoying the story.   It was at this point I figured it was time to write myself.

I am by no means an expert on writing, but I am knowledgeable about finding things out.   When I find something that stumps me, I take to google like a pro and research until said stump is no more.   My intention for this blog is to share with you that information as I learn to become a writer myself.   All the things that inspire me, the things that motivate me and the things that make me regret spending the last 4 hours typing utter rubbish.   Everything that encompasses authordom (I do realise that is a made up word - just be glad I didn’t use “Authorosity”, which I was seriously considering.)

The Birth of UnAuthordox

I began blogging at the recommendation of my girlfriend (an awesome freelance web designer) when she reminded me that she had bought the domain “boyinaband.com” for me and I hadn’t done anything with it. I had been blogging weekly as a new years resolution since the beginning of 2008 about my personal life, but she pressed me to write about the experiences I have… experienced.

I became addicted.   Blogging is great - the ideas, the research, the stats… it had me hooked.   I branched out into a second blog, www.gotoandblog.com, where I began detailing my experiences with Flash Animation and Programming.

Around this time I had been preparing to write a book, so my third foray into the blogosphere naturally involved writing; hence UnAuthordox.

The name itself is a clever play on the word “Unorthodox” into which I have sneakily slipped the word “Author” in order to portray that I am an Author that doesn’t follow the regular rules of writing - if there are any.   I wouldn’t know because I don’t follow them.   Or at least I think I don’t.
